The Bearn is the territory of the bear, chamois, of summer feasts and transhumance shepherds. People in love with the mountains will meet there both in summer and winter between snowshoes excursions in the great and still wild natural site of the cirque de Lescun, a horse ride around the peak du midi d’Ossau, a bike cross in the piémont souletin, or trout fishing on the edges of the Aspe and Ossau gave rivers. Climbing, paragliding, rafting and canyoning : both amateurs and adventurers will enjoy plenty of activities in this huge sports area that is always full of surprises !

Here, sliding addicts will benefit from a great choice and won’t miss the opportunity to discover Gourette, Artouste, La Pierre Saint-Martin, or even Issarbe and Iraty cross-country skiing tracks. Hiking experts won’t be forgotten with many possibilities to discover the Pyrenees National Park summits or the close Iraty forest.

And as for the ocean lovers, the Bask coast beaches, located at some kilometres from here, will offer white sand to children and waves to surfers. Thalassatherapy and fitness centres aren’t far : you can find some in Hendaye or Anglet ; or also in Béarn with spas in Eaux-Bonnes, Eaux-Chaudes and Salies-de-Béarn.

This country is also very rich concerning history, culture and secular traditions : from the Okabe cromlechs to St James’ ways, and also Pau castle or Saint-Jean-Pied de Port citadel. Aydius and Ainhoa cities and inhabitants will also charm you.

During the term, you will discover Bask Country ancestral rites which are danced and sung, like for instance the Pastorale or the Mascarade. In Bearn, the shepherds feast and the carnaval Biarnes will be a fantastic moment for both children and adults.
Here you are in a Pyrenean country which despite its strong character will welcome you as if you were a local, making you discover its traditional gastronomy. You will enjoy its famous garbure, its traditional poule au pot, Espelette pepper ham from the Bask country, axoa or wood dove salmi and of course the delicious Pyrenean ewe cheese. You will also taste its wine specialities : smooth jurançon, tannic madirans and irouleguy.
